Linux Distributions

These distributions contain everything that is required to run a mature Unix system on your PC. Including compilers/utilities/Latex/X11/etc from the GNU project of the Free Software Foundation. Although all distributions are freely available from the Internet, the size alone of the various distributions suggests a CD-ROM to start your system. They come with various extra's as compared to the bare-bones downloads.

Various distributions of the Linux system are available:

• Very popular is Ubuntu download. And derivatives as: Linux Mint
• Debian , the Linux communities controlled distribution.
• OpenSUSE: tumbleweed and leap. annoying bugs). News, forums and mailing lists (forum archives).
• Fedora is The public RedHat development. See Fedora weekly news for addtional information.
  Red Hat is the corresponding commercial distribution.
• Slackware, has been with us for a long time. A good distro if you know what you are doing.
